Short vs. Long: Why Content Creators Are Embracing Depth Again

The ease of creating AI-generated short-form content has led to a streak of similar content across platforms, making it challenging for creators to stand out and leading to lower search engine rankings as well.

While short-form content is still on the rise, long-form content is back, as I and others predicted.

A recent research by 𝘉𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘋𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘉𝘰𝘺 reveals that 68% of marketers have increased long-form creator content production in the past year, with 70% planning further increases.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭?

• Fight Creative Blocks: 39% of marketers believe long-form content helps fight creative burnout.

• Increased ROI: 33% report higher returns on investment.

• Deeper Connections: Creators can share richer narratives, fostering meaningful audience relationships.

• Content Versatility: Long-form pieces can be repurposed into multiple short-form assets, maximizing efficiency.

𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐬:

• Greater creative freedom (51%)

• Audience diversification (49%)

• Higher engagement potential (39%)

Consumers are embracing this shift too, with 38% engaging with long-form content in the past year. Notably, younger demographics show even greater interest.

That's about the report. But allow me to add my insights over why this resurgence was inevitable and is destined to trend even more.

The ease of creating short-form content has led to a streak of similar content across platforms, making it challenging for creators to stand out and leading to lower search engine rankings as well.

Here is why:

𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐡: "𝘊𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦? 𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘮 𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘥!"

𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲: "𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘯 𝘨𝘦𝘮𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴: 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘭 𝘛𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳, 𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘳𝘦-𝘋𝘢𝘮𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘶𝘷𝘳𝘦!"

𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: "𝘓𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘵: 𝘌𝘢𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦! #𝘧𝘪𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘤𝘬"

Long-form content isn't replacing short-form; it's complementing it. But it's important to balance both, because short-form content alone won't be able to sustain the expression of creativity, in the long term.
